Biotechnology is hot topic nowadays because of the controversy surrounding a number of applications. Chapter 22 in the textbook (Mader) covered several of these applications, however there are others that are significant and controversial and have made the news. These include the use of stem cells, tissue engineering, genetically modified organisms (GMO) in agriculture or aquaculture, in disease diagnoses and treatment (e.g. "biologic" drugs) You assignment this week is to choose one specific application and report on it providing benefits and risks as well as you own opinion (if you wish) on them. Be sure to state your topic in your post's title so each student only discusses on a particular topic. Please try to choose a topic that hasn't been previously posted.
