Discuss the following:

1. Think about how how the cellular processes of respiration and photosynthesis are opposite reactions. Now consider that, respiration releases that energy for cellular use. Photosynthesis uses light energy and water to capture carbon and release oxygen. Fossil fuel use is similar to respiration in that it releases the energy that plants captured eons ago.
2. Read Flower Power: Genetic Modification Could Amply Boost Plants' Carbon-Capture and Bioenergy Capacity. If plants or algae could be genetically engineered to capture twice as much carbon as they do now, would you support the release of these genetically modified organisms to address climate change? Why or why not? What could be the consequences?
