Part I: Research

Directions: Research a crime that occurred in your community and think about the considerations with which the responding officer had to cope.

1. Summarize the crime.

2. Do you think that the officers’ response was effective?

3. If so, why?

4. If not, explain how you think the situation should have been handled.  Include their responsibilities and the process you think should have been used in the preliminary investigation.

   Part II: Case Study

    

   Directions: Read the Caylee Anthony case information provided in your textbook as well as watch the video in the Module 1 Lecture Notes.  In addition, research additional information about this death/homicide crime via the internet and/or other YouTube videos.

    

1. Provide a Timeline of the crime (taking field notes).

2. Summarize the details of the crime (gathering information).

3. What would you as the investigator have done differently?

4. How would what you as the investigator have done differently likely have impacted the outcome of Casey Anthony’s murder trial?
