1. Read Luke 1:1-1:4. What do these four verses tell us about what to expect from this book?

Now read Luke 1:5-5:11 and 6:12-8:3. (If you would like to read the entire NT this semester, read Luke 1:1-9:50.) Be thinking about the following questions as you are reading.

2. In what ways are Matthew's and Luke's accounts of Jesus' birth similar? In what ways are they different?

3. John the Baptist is a major character in chapters 1, 3, and 7. List each similarity and difference you notice between John and Jesus.

4. List any ways in which you notice Jesus' teaching challenging the surrounding cultural views, such as those of wealth, of social status, of gender, or of nationality. You should be able to find a number of passages that you can discuss here.
