Benefits and dangers of AI

For years, science fiction has given people a glimpse at a potential future, and as computing becomes more advanced, that fictional possibility gradually becomes probability. One of the most popular topics in science fiction, however, is the idea of artificial intelligence (AI) and the gamut of stories ranges from robots trying to be humans, to robots enslaving humans.

In today’s world, AI may not have reached the sophistication portrayed in fiction, but it grows more impressive and humanistic with each passing day. Nevertheless, while AI is created for the betterment of humankind, there are inherent dangers that accompany the benefits. In this Discussion, you will analyse both the current (and potential) benefits and dangers of continually advancing AI.

To prepare for this Discussion:

·         Review your Weekly Learning Resources with a focus on machine intelligence and advancements in AI.

·         Research modern uses of AI.

·         Research current news and AI advancements, how it is being used or how it is intended to be used.

·         Research existing benefits and dangers in AI and identify trends that might suggest future benefits and dangers.
