Assignment: Role of Leadership in Higher Education
In the United States, six regional commissions supervise and accredit institutions of higher education. Other commissions accredit specific programs, such as management degree programs. For most institutions, obtaining and maintaining accreditation is a high priority for the institution’s leadership.
To prepare:
For this Assignment, research at least two of the regional accreditation commissions and review their accreditation criteria. As you review the accreditation documents, use them to articulate your own working definition of higher education in the 21st century.Consider the purpose of higher education based on the criteria provided.
To complete:
Write a 2- to 3-page paper in which you do the following:
- Define “higher education in the 21st century” based on accreditation criteria. In your definition, explain the role of higher education leadership in supporting the goals of the institution. Use APA formatting to cite links to the resources you consulted.
- Briefly state your current or anticipated future role in higher education leadership and management. Explain your professional career goals and how you expect this program to facilitate those goals. What kinds of 21st century challenges do you expect to address in your current or future role given what you might learn in this course and program?
Your paper should be written in a scholarly tone with APA formatting.
