How to cite sources

As you write, be sure to credit those who have provided you with key terms, ideas, and knowledge for your documents. You can cite sources using several different styles, and the way you cite the source is determined by the style you are using. If you are majoring in engineering, use IEEE style. Otherwise, you may use APA style (or CSE) but not MLA.

Here are two examples.

Example 1. If I cite IEEE style [1], I will use bracketed numbers to indicate a reference. The references list at the end of the document gives complete information about the sources in numbered order of appearance.

Example 2. If I cite APA style (Johnson-Sheehan, 2012), I can use the textbook. At the end of the document, I will use "References" as the title for the bibliography, just as I did with IEEE style. However, the references are listed in alphabetical order, not order of appearance in the document.
