Assignment 3

Many people think that drug use, abuse, and addiction is an individual’s problem and responsibility and it should be left to the individual to work through it. Others think that it is a problem in the family system. 

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments.  Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

• What do you think are the warning signs and symptoms of drug use?
  • Are the warning signs and symptoms the same for all psychoactive drugs? Explain.
• At what point should action be taken when drug abuse and addiction warning signs are present? Explain.
• Should individuals who use drugs be responsible for resolving drug abuse and addiction themselves? Why or why not?
• Should the family be obligated to assist an individual with his or her drug addiction? Why or why not?
• How do you think drug abuse, addiction, and treatment will impact the family? Why?
