Assignment 2: Discussion—Termination 

Termination with clients, fellow staff members, and your supervisor at the end of your field experience can be challenging as it can evoke mixed feelings. You may feel excited to have successfully completed the experience, but you may also feel some sadness that you are leaving the site and those with whom you worked (Howes, 2008).

For this assignment, identify one relationship you had to conclude at your field experience site and respond to the following:

How would you describe your personal reaction to the termination? 

How would you describe the other person’s reaction to the termination? 

Were you able to plan for the termination over the course of your placement at the site, or was it sudden? Include details. 

Is there anything you would do differently now that you have had the time to reflect on the termination? 

What do the professionals advise about how to handle termination with clients? Cite one peer-reviewed, academic source to justify your answer to this question.
