Assignment 2: Discussion—Dealing with Ethical Dilemmas
Assignment 2: Discussion—Dealing with Ethical Dilemmas
Depending on the nature of your role and duties at your field experience site, you may frequently encounter situations that create ethical dilemmas. For example, you may have been asked to violate a client’s confidentiality or to develop a dual relationship with a client. You may have been asked to perform duties for which you do not yet have sufficient training or credentials.
Consider your field experience and, using the readings for this module, respond to the following:
Describe an ethical dilemma you have faced at your field experience site. If you have not yet faced an ethical dilemma, describe one that you anticipate you may face during your field experience or describe one you have observed a colleague encountering at your site. Provide details about the situation. However, take care to avoid sharing any confidential or identifying information about any clients.
Examine how you (or your colleague) responded (or how you might respond) to the dilemma by describing your thoughts about the situation, your actions in response to the situation, and how those fit or do not fit the ethical guidelines of the profession. What is the response that would fit the ethical guidelines?
Identify and describe the specific code(s) that relate to your situation. Include codes from at least two of the following organizations:
American Psychological Association (APA)
American Counseling Association (ACA)
National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
Write your initial response in approximately 350 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
By Saturday, February 21, 2015, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, February 25, 2015, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses. Provide a statement of clarification, a point of view with rationale, challenge a point of discussion, or draw a relationship between one or more points of the discussion.
