Imagine three people, looking at one another from three vantage points: Abby is standing on the Staten Island Ferry heading toward the pier, Bertha is standing on the pier, and Connie is walking backwards on the pier away from the water. Now imagine that Bertha (1) throws a tennis ball toward Abby, then (2) shines a flashlight toward Connie.

Based on your readings and ruminations, do these three people see the tennis ball go at the same or different speeds? How about the flashlight beam? If they’re different speeds, who sees them faster and who sees them slower? If they’re the same, why?

You can give any answer you want with any explanation. Let’s hear how you think this problem through.
