A resume describes your skills, education and employment history along with job duties you have performed.  Your resume is your first point of contact to an open position or desired company. Think of your resume as an opportunity to sell yourself to your potential employer.

Before you begin:

·         Read chapters 1 and 2 in the eBook.

In  Readings & Tools review the following documents:

·         Resume Checklist

·         Technical vs. Transferable Skills Worksheet

·         Resume Template

·         Resume Samples

Assignment Requirements:

1.     To create an effective resume you will need to know the difference between transferable skills and technical skills. To help you understand how these terms apply to you, complete the Technical vs. Transferable Skills Worksheet.  Complete all three sections: Personality and Work-Style Traits, Organizational and Interpersonal Skills, and The Transferable Skills Checklist.

After completing the worksheets, list your top 10 Personality and Work Style Traits.  Use these traits in your resume rough draft.

2.     Create a rough draft resume using resources such as the textbook, resume writing tips, and the traits identified above.  See sample resumes in Readings & Tools or use the resume templates found in Word.
