Assignment 1: Discussion—Voicing Objections

profileeliahtavah

It is very easy to fall into the habit of listening to your own voice alone, forgetting that every effective community organizer is, before all things, a good listener. This exercise will give you the opportunity to see your project from a radically different perspective—from that of its potential opponents. Let this glimpse guide your work from here on out!

Imagine that you are a community member who is writing an Op/Ed piece for the local paper in opposition to the proposed action-research project. Keeping this in mind, respond to the following:

  • As a community member, submit a one-paragraph article that details your reasonable objections to the proposed project.
  • As a student, follow up with a brief response to these potential objections.

Write your initial response in 3–4 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

By Saturday, March 4, 2017, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, March 8, 2017, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses.

All discussion assignments in this course will be graded using a rubric. This assignment is worth 40 points. Download the discussion rubric and carefully read it to understand the expectations
