Assignment 1: Discussion Question: Extreme Approaches

The beginning of rationalism is often traced to Descartes statement, “I think, therefore I am.” Extreme forms of rationalism did not trust the senses. Sensationalists took the opposite viewpoint, trusting the senses as being accurate representations of truth and the world.

Discuss some limitations of the extreme sensationalist and extreme rationalist approaches. Which do you trust more – your reason or your senses?
