Week One Overview

Note: The online classroom is designed to time students out after 90 minutes of inactivity. Because of this, we strongly suggest that you compose your work in a word processing program and copy and paste it into the discussion post when you are ready to submit it.

1. Read the following chapters in Effective Training:
   • Chapter One: Training in Organizations
   • Chapter Two: Aligning Training with Strategy
   • Chapter Three: Learning, Motivation, and Performance

To participate in the following Discussion Forums, go to this week's Discussion link in the left navigation:

1. Training Preferences

   Discuss the type of training you would prefer and why. Use Figure 3-6 on page 82 to help you start your discussion, but do not limit it to only those characteristics. When responding to at least two of your classmates’ postings, discuss what accounts for the differences and similarities in your training preferences.

2. Learning Theories

   There are more theories of learning and motivation than have been described in the text. Do a search for a learning or a motivation theory that is not in the text. Write a summary of the theory and suggest how it could be used in training. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.
