Unit 2 Summary

In Unit 2, Public Administration Bureaucratic Structure, you were expected to:

1. Analyze authoritarianism as it relates to personality type and its effect on performance in public administration.

2. Review APA style.

In this unit, you were introduced to the relationship between personality and authoritarianism in public administration. From the Eagan article, you were asked to view authoritarianism as it relates to personality and the types of roles defined as prone to either a dominant or subordinate role, and how the difference can affect performance in public administration.

You were also introduced to the concept of the separation of powers in public administration and the managerial, political, and the legal approaches discussed.

Ascertaining whether certain personality types are selected by various bureaucracies with particular submissive tendencies or whether personality is modified through participation in a bureaucracy is just one of the concepts regarding personality and the bureaucratic structure that were explored in this chapter.
