Design, Analyze, and Create Political Poster or Personal Story Art Piece

Due by Monday October 31, 2016

PURPOSE

Many artists explore issues related to our topics in their artwork. This is an opportunity for you to create an art object that in some way explores issues from one of our topic perspectives: political, regional (personal stories).  This could be a personal exploration of the topics or you could explore some specific issue that you feel strongly about. The possibilities for expression of these topics are wide and varied. This must be an original artwork by you. Mediums to consider might be drawing, painting, graphic design, collage etc... You may not simply post an image from the web.

FORMAT AND CONTENT

This is up to you and the type of medium with which you choose to work. The final product should be in the form of a poster or advertisement. You may download a photograph that you take of the artwork or scan the image of the final product. It may be created through collage, painting, or drawing, or you may create the work digitally.

IMPORTANT

Whatever you choose to focus upon, the relationship of visual image and your topic should be the underlying issue that is addressed in the content of your work.

HOW TO PRESENT YOUR OBJECT

Create an HTML, PDF, JPG, GIF or other appropriate file that includes text and images and post it in the appropriate section in Discussions.

Include an overall view of the artwork as well, and if necessary, one or two close-up details. If there is text included in the work of art, make sure you include what the text says if it is difficult to see and/or if we will not be able to read it in a photograph.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

  •  Along with the work of art, you will post a 3-page (double spaced, digital) artist’s statement explaining:
  • The purpose
  • The work itself and how it relates to the topic
  • The anticipated audience
  • Your anticipated impact on an audience

You must refer to course content and reference a minimum of FOUR readings, discussion postings and/or reference videos seen in class that support/ explain your intention with the work of art. You must cite references properly both within the text of your paper as well as in a bibliography at the end of your paper. This project will be posted on the Discussion Board under, "Midterm Art Project".
