ARGUMENTATIVE/RESEARCH ESSAY
ARGUMENTATIVE/RESEARCH ESSAY
For this essay, I’ll be asking you to write a research-based essay that presents an argument. A successful argumentative essay will have a clear, arguable thesis, will offer at least three supports for this thesis, will quote at least three sources (and correctly reference them according to MLA formatting conventions), and will address, at some point, a counterargument.
Some things to note—the more “local” your topic, the better. Which is to say: write about something that hasn’t been done to death. Write about something that matters to you very much, and about which you’ll be able to say something new. And, if you’re worried about finding sources, remember that interviews and surveys count as a source.
