                                                 Argumentative Paragraph - Guidelines

In Week 10, the Argumentative essay is due.  To begin the process of creating the essay, you are asked to write a paragraph this week to discuss your argumentative topic, your views about it, and the views of those who oppose your view.  The paragraph should be approximately 100 words in length.

Consider addressing the following questions when completing the paragraph:

  1. What topic do I want to address and why?
  2. What are my views regarding the topic?
  3. What is the opposing view of the topic?
  4. How can I acknowledge my opponents’ views?
  5. How can I ensure that my opponents know that I understand their views?
  6. What sources can I use to support my argument?

Note the formatting guidelines for the paragraph:

  1. Double space all lines throughout the paragraph.
  2. Use Times New Roman font and size 10 print throughout the paragraph.
  3. Do not use bold print, italics, or underlining.
  4. Include a title that relates to the content of the paragraph (centered on the page).
  5. Include a four-part heading in the left margin to include your name, my name, the course name, and the date.  Access the following link and scroll to the end of the page to view the heading sample:  https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/
