This is your Midterm Personal Memoir Essay—due in week 5 on 4/23/16 at 11:59pm.  

For this assignment you will write a focused, 2-4 page personal memoir essay that builds on one or more of the ideas from your week 2 mini-essay.  You will write about a particular aspect of your studies (within your major) and how they relate to your professional aspirations.  In other words, you will explore a specific element of your college education (e.g. your experiences in a given course in the major, why you chose your major, why you might have changed majors, an assignment that challenged you, an experience in your internship, etc.).  This exploration must encompass a look towards the future (to the job(s) you hope to someday acquire.

The fundamental difference between this assignment and the mini essay is that the mini essay takes a broader and creative look at the subject of your education and career ambition. It allows you to explore a number of perspectives.  Your personal essay, while a much longer work, will be much more focused. It will narrow the subject down to a specific topic--and explore it in great detail. 

Remember, your essay must be “relatable” to your reader—even/especially if that reader is not in your field.  It must effect that unity of human experience we’ve been discussing.  It must also include many of the devices we’ve reviewed and encountered thus far: narrative, dialogue, and reflection. Include some Ah-ha Moments if you can.
