For this assignment, you are to select a social policy that has local, state, tribal, national or international application. Previous students have written about immigration policy, No Child Left Behind, energy policy, housing policy, etc. Local would be Las Crucez New Mexico please

Choose a policy that is of interest to you or relevant to your major field of study. You are to research this policy thoroughly, using at least five (5) resources for a paper that has content of at least 8 to 10 pages (The title page, abstract page and reference page are in addition to the content. Thus, the paper would be 11 to 13 total pages in length.). Wikipedia References are NOT permitted.

Your paper must be typed and double-spaced typed using 1-inch margins. You are to use either a 10 or 12 pt type pitch. You must follow APA writing style. This means that you have a cover page, an abstract, page numbers, and reference page. See the Getting Started Learning Module to find links to APA style quides.

You are to submit this assignment through Canvas by the due date listed. The paper should reflect your best writing and thinking skills.

 

SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS

YOU MUST ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING OUTLINE COVERING THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS IN WRITING YOUR PAPER. Please make sure you use the following as section headings and sub headings (in BOLD) in your paper. Also address in your paper the questions and issues that appear under the headings and sub headings. Do not write out the questions in your paper.  These points are a guide for you as to what to think about and discuss in each section.  Not all will apply to all policies you may be writing about. Each section should be approximately the number of pages indicated.  Papers not following this outline will be penalized in grading.

 

1.   BACKGROUND OF THE POLICY (suggested 3-4 pages)

Problem Description

  • What was the social issue or problem that the policy addressed?
  • Who did the problem impact and how widespread was the problem.
  • How is the problem defined and how do different definitions impact how the problem is viewed?
  • What are the causes of the problem?
  • How will the policy help to address the problem?

    Contextual Issues
  • When did the policy originate?
  • What was the historical context that led to the creation of the policy?
  • How had the problem previously been dealt with?
  • Who was involved in the development of the policy? Who was for it and who was against it? (This may include individuals, groups and organizations.)
  • How has the original policy changed over time?

2.   POLICY DESCRIPTION (suggested 2 pages)

  • What types of resources does the policy provide (i.e. cash, in-kind services, goods and services, etc.)?
  • Who will be/is covered and how?
  • How will the policy be implemented?
  • How is the policy funded?


3.   SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS (suggested 3-4 pages)

  • How well does this policy advance social well-being?
  • How well does the policy address social and economic justice issues?
  • What is working and what needs to be changed? What specific changes or alterations in the policy would you recommend and why?
  • Do your suggestions basically represent a continuation of the status quo or does it represent a significant departure from the past?
