The coursework will be marked based on a report of the analysis.

This report should include :

 

Introduction : (1 page, 10 marks)

Should outline basic strategy toward part optimisation. How do you plan to go from existing part to new design capable of accommodating new motor.

Design evolution : (up to 3 pages, 20 marks)

Show how part evolves to finished design. Include stress plots together with brief reason for each iteration)

FE Anlaysis : (up to 5 pages, 40 marks)

§  A discussion of the planning of the design – eg. element type to be used, number and size of elements, use of symmetry, restraints etc.

§  A discussion of the design evolution and optimisation. How was optimisation achieved ?

§  How was the mesh created ? Were any bad elements generated ? If so what was done to try to eliminate these ? Include a printout of the mesh.

§  How were boundary conditions and loads / displacements applied ?

§  Results : Show von mises stress plot of intermediate and final designs.

 

Manual verification : (up to 2 pages, 20 marks)

 

Show analysis is credible by doing some manual validation of stress and deflection. Were the results generally of a magnitude which might be expected ? Explain.

 

Conclusion : (up to 1 page, 10 marks)

Wrap up exercise – reflect on experience
