I am keying the line numbers below to the Pelican edition. Editions often differ slightly, however, in the way that they deal with the line numbers (you will often find that they are slightly different from one another), so if your edition of shakespeare is either not the pelican, or is not line numbered, I would recommend having a look at the pelican edition (either in the library, in a Branes & Noble or Borders, or by looking at a friends copy) in order to quickly locate the scenes I am referring.

Answer both questions:

1. Compare and contrast the following two "wooing" scenes a) 5.2.100-325 in Henry V (pay attention to the way Henry and the French Duke of Burgundy talk about Katherine as a metaphor for France near the end of this passage ) ; and b) 1.2.1-268 in Richard III (the wooing of Lady Anne). In your answer, consider the respective social and political positions (the relative strengths and weakness, among other things) of the wooers and the wooees (if thats even a word); also, consider the similarities and differences in the approaches of Henry and Richard. As always, the best answers will be grounded in the text of the plays. Use plenty of examples / quotes from he text.

2. Compare and contrast the uses of disguise and dissimulation in 1 Henry IV, Henry V and Richard III. Focus equally on such scenes as 1 Henry IV 1.2.190-212, Henry V 4.1.35-281, and Richard III 1.1.1-40, 1.3.324-338, 3.7.57-246, and 5.3.217-223. As always, (the best answers will be grounded in the text of the plays. use plenty of examples / quotes from the text.
