Before you start this assignment, you will have to decide what the subject of your essay #2 will be.  Based on that subject, you will conduct research to complete this assignment.

 

Essay # 2 is asking you to write a well-developed essay to identify and effectively describe a specific and compelling issue for a particular academic community. (Detailed prompt is posted on eCourses) 

 

 

 

Bibliography Assignment Overview

 

 

 

After selecting a research topic for the research project, complete the annotated bibliography.  Your annotated bibliography should consist of minimum five sources. At least three of these sources should be academic, peer-reviewed sources from the University databases.  The other two can be credible web sources. 

 

 

 

 

 

An annotation is a summary and/or evaluation.

 

Therefore, an annotated bibliography includes a summary and/or evaluation of each of the source. 

 

 

 

For this assignment you will:

 

 

 

Provide a brief description of the topic.                                                        5 points Document the source in APA style.        5 points for each source        25 total point

 

           Summarize the source                                  6 points for each source        30 total points Evaluate (Assess) the source                         4 points for each source        20 total points

 

           Reflect on the source                                    4 points for each source        20 total points

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

(i)                Document Sources:  Document sources in APA style (worth 25 points).  The following link provides more information on how to document sources in APA style:

(ii)              Summarize:What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine how detailed your summary is.  

 

 

 

The annotations for the academic sources should do, at the very least, these three things: (Worth 30 points)

 

 

 

1)      Identify the central argument of the source 

 

2)      Identify the main type of evidence within the source and explain how it is used to support the central claim 

 

3)      Identify and explain one opposing view that the source addresses or one significant way in which the argument of the source is limited or qualified. 

 

The annotations for the non-academic source must explain the credibility of the source.

 

 

 

(iii)            Assess:After summarizing a source, assess the source. Is it a useful source? How does it compare with other sources in your bibliography? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? What is the goal of this source? (Worth 20 points)

 

(iv)             Reflect:Once you've summarized and assessed a source, you need to ask how it fits into your research. Was this source helpful to you? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source in your research project? Has it changed how you think about your topic? (Worth 20 points)

 

 

 

 

 

The bibliography should start with a brief description of the topic that the student is researching. (Worth 5 points)
