Analyzing Research Needs

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–500 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:

1. For this course, you will select a company and analyze its research needs throughout the session for the research proposal that you will be completing toward the end of this course. A helpful list of companies can be found at the following Web site: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/
   • Choose a company that has the following three characteristics:
     • Small to large organization
     • Must have seen dramatic business changes in the past decade, such as acquisitions or downsizing
     • Must include product brands that need a face-lift or new ways to reach new customers
2. Research and become familiar with your selected company/client. Based on the company you have selected for your research proposal, discuss with your colleagues the following:
   • What is one main consideration your client needs to be aware of in this industry?
   • What is the current situation of the company’s industry?
   • Name 3 secondary data resources available to you that you can use to start your research proposal.
   • Brainstorm what information-gathering techniques you will use.
