Alternatives to Pain medication

profilewiluiana

Those coping with chronic pain are often looking for anything to give them relief.  The first course of treatment is typically medication management often using opiods like hydrocodone, oxycodone, and othe morphine derivatives.  The long term use of opiods becomes untenable due to the side effects, physical tolerance, and risk of addiction (Falvo, 2014).  In my work, I have even seen extended use of fentanyl which was prescribed for chronic pain (headaches) following brain injury (Fentanyl is a powerful opiod synthetic described as being 100x more potent than morphine.  It is mainly used for palliative care, post surgery, and in cancer treatment).

Looking beyond medications, briefly describe some non-pharmaceutical interventions that may assist people in coping with chronic pain?
