The opportunity to define is an opportunity to exercise your poetic imagination, to show your readers that they have been seeing something the wrong way; that they can look at in a whole new way (yours!).  One way of defining something is to say what it is not.

Pick a term that seems to have as many meanings as there are people who use it, such as “love,” “patriot,” “friend.”  Give three (3) examples of what it is not.  “Love means never having to say you’re sorry,” for example.

Pick another student’s contribution. Suggest two (2) more examples of what that student’s term is not.  For example, “Hello Denise: I would even go further and say that love is not violent.  When you are truly in love, you could never possibly let any form of harm come to your partner.”

Part 2 atleast 100 words or so

When writing a five-paragraph essay, you will have an introduction paragraph with a thesis, three body-paragraphs that support the thesis, and a conclusion paragraph.

Considering the structure of an essay, what discussion have you personally written in the past six weeks that you think could be most easily developed into a five-paragraph essay?  Identify the discussion board, name its topic, and suggest a possible thesis statement and three possible topics to prove that thesis.
