PART ONE

The Shang and Zhou dynasties really changed China in many ways. You focused mostly on the Zhou dynasty.  What about the Shang dynasty?  As you know, their greatest development during that time was the invention of writing. Do you recall which dynasty was the first to domesticate the horse and use it for agricultural needs?

PART TWO  NEED AT LEAST 100 WORDS

One of the first dynasties was the Shang Dynasty which conquered approximately 1800 city states. Instead of one emperor ruling all the land, a hereditary king gave divisions of lands to his principal followers to watch over each section of land. In return, the followers pledged loyalty and paid dues. Usually the less fortunate you were, the farther off the edge of the kingdom you had to live. To keep order and maintain power, war chariots and bronze weapons were used. The Shang Dynasty military was far more advanced with technology than other military forces. Using this advanced technology and power, they gained land forcefully. The emperor was considered a direct link to the heavens from the people. This was a time when Chinese rulers claimed to rule under the mandate of heaven, and the people believed that gods gave a monarch the right to rule. Still, with all this power, the ruler had duties such as providing good crops and victories in battles. If the ruler failed to meet these standards, rebellions broke out, and dynasties could be overthrown. The Zhou Dynasty also divided the land and appointed leaders to oversee each territory. As the Zhou rule began, internal trade increased along with agriculture. Iron farm tools and plows were created. The Zhou Dynasty had a slightly different way of running things; they used a central government which unified and controlled the empire as a whole.
