African Slavery

European colonization of the Americas in the sixteenth century did not
only impact the lives of Europeans and those living in the new
settlements on the American continent. The development of a global
slave trade created a system of economic interdependence between
Africa, America, and Europe that resulted in major and devastating
transformations in Africa. What specific changes did African societies
experience from the slave trade? In your responses to classmates,
consider the experiences of African slaves in the Americas. How did
they interact with the different societies in the Americas?
