Answer: The leader discussed in the YouTube video was a great example of Servant Leadership. Servant leaders are focused on assisting, supporting and serving others to reach their highest potential (Greenleaf, et al., 2002). The leader in this video supported and assisted his employee that was dealing with a sick child. He offered his help to the employee with the sick child, but also followed through. For example, the employee’s son was in the hospital for surgery and needed blood. Not only did the leader demonstrate empathy for his employee, he arranged a blood drive and encouraged others to participate (YouTube, 2014). This act of kindness and compassion encouraged the employee to have a newfound respect for his boss and led him to work harder and develop the reception center for soldiers. The Servant leader’s actions translated into action in his employees, which then led to positive outcomes. Servant leadership principles and biblical principles encourage leaders to be an example for others and in doing so; you are contributing to a better world for future generations.
