Writing Assignment (50 pts):

Your writing assignment is to pick what you take to be the number 1

problem in the US today, write about at least two different ways the

problem could be solved, and then argue why one of those approaches is

best.

• The paper should contain five full pages of writing. Line-spacing should

be set at 1.5, and the space after paragraphs should be set at 6. To make

sure that your paper is five full pages, you should plan to have your last

paragraph bleed over into a sixth page.

• Give me hard copies only on the final exam day.

• If you are basing any part of your argument on the work of someone

else, and it should, be sure to cite your sources on a Works Cited page,

and appropriately referenced in your paper. (The Works Cited page

does not count as one of the five full pages that I’m asking for.) You

should have at least two references cited for an A or B paper.

• Use the MLA style guide provided here. Note that you should use Times

New Roman 12-point font. Margins should be 1-inch on all sides. And, as

in the guide, it should have your last name and page number on the

upper right of each page. Look at the style guide.

• Grading of your writing will be based on communication skills

(formatting, organization, spelling, and grammar), your reasoning skills,

and how creatively compelling you can make your paper.

• If you would like feedback on a draft of your paper, you need to get it to

me by email by the end of Week 11 of the course (Inductive Fallacies

week).
