Her parents are extremely concerned about her self-harming behaviour, as she ritually cuts her arms and legs on at least one occasion per week. She has also expressed suicidal ideation (with no previous attempts or specific plans). When they come to you, her parents emphasize that you MUST help her stop this cutting behaviour immediately. Discuss what you would say to her parents about their goals for therapy and how you would attempt to work with this young woman in therapy (in terms of addressing the self-harm and suicidal ideation).
