20th Century Plays From Modern – Contemporary Theatre (kim woods only)

Guidelines for Your Paper 

(At least six pages excluding bibliography)

As before, I would like you to read one play fromcomparable time periods or playwrights we’re reading(see above). Remember: nothing ON the reading list); but unlike Paper #1, we will analyze it using the lens of Post-Colonialism. For instance: It might be interesting to investigate whether an American play depicts its characters as “ colonized”  or “ colonizers? “ The play will not broadcast this.  

• This paper will be best when it comes out of your experience completing the GE Studies Mini-Assignment 3 (See guidelines this week).
• Read “Analyzing Postcolonial Theatre and Drama” (p.894) and From Post Colonial Drama (p.1063). Look at your play from the standpoint of hegemonies between nationalities and/or issues of race or gender as described in these documents. 
• Look at the background of play and playwright as before, then discuss the play’s intent through the above lens that you have chosen, then conclude with a paragraph describing whether there is a call to action expressed and if not, what conclusions you draw from it.
