200-300 word assignment on gender-ed language

Your response to the topics should be composed in complete sentences and paragraphs and be 200–300 words in length. 

For this alternative assignment you will look at the relationship between gender and language. Some languages are “gendered”, in that nouns are determined to be either “masculine” or “feminine.” English is not gendered in this way, however there are words that representative of gender, such as “brother” or “sister.” To complete this assignment answer the respond to the following:

1. Make a list of gendered words in the English language.
2. How many of these are “masculine” or “feminine”?
3. Can you create a gender-neutral language?
4. What about names—can you tell gender by a person’s first name? Last name?
