2 Question Oceanography

• If you were on a research cruise in the Southern Ocean, at about 60 degrees south latitude, what type of sediment (specifically) would you expect to find on the seafloor beneath you? Why? How would this sediment differ from that you might find in the Gulf of Mexico, just off the coastline of Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida? Why would it differ? Use specific examples and terminology from your module and text readings to fully justify your answer

From Module (4), you will have this question:

• A friend tells you "The deepest portion of the Atlantic Ocean is right in its center". Is this statement true? Why or why not? In your answer, describe the bathymetry and the features of the Atlantic Ocean seafloor. Your description should start at the US East Coast and end at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and should describe the shape of all of the features of the Atlantic Ocean floor. Relate your discussion of the feature to plate tectonic processes and provide specific examples to support your response.
