1.Summarize Cascio’s main points and explain what business models Sam’s Club and Costco represent, i.e. the shareholder model or the stakeholder model.
2.Discuss the following issues that Cascio raises:

(1) What kind of relationship between employees and management is desirable and why?

(2) Does the CEO’s compensation have any impact on the relationship between employees, management, customers, and other stakeholders?

(3) Why was Wall Street critical to Costco’s business strategy? Was Costco’s response to that criticism adequate? Why would Sam’s Club probably not consider Costco’s response as adequate?

(4) Is it good business to be good? Do the better health plans and the wages that Costco offers its employees benefit their business? If so, can Sam’s Club offer similar benefits without compromising their business model?

(5) How can a business stimulate the employees’ interest in their business?

(6) What are the costs and the benefits of the two competing business models?
