After reading the article about Lithium, I discover that most of the pharmaceutical companies had already changed with their mission into making profits instead of curing the patients. The general principle for Pharmaceutical companies should be placed their patient’s health in their top priority. However, the article demonstrated that these companies has already shift their mission into making profit. They tried to maintenance the patients keep using their medical or drugs in order to maximize the profits. They disregard the patient’s health and even sacrifice the recovery chances. As we all know, money can not exchange one’s person life. A person’s life and health should not treated as those guinea pigs because of pursuing of profits. Not only the Pharmaceutical companies, even the doctors should not harm their patients due to their selfish and greedy behaviors. For example, a doctor tried to sell a pill which originally value as $5, to a patient in $50. Even their behaviors don’t offense the laws, but it definitely crosses the ethnic line. It damages the rights of the patients and even the reputation of the medical professors in public’s minds. The pharmaceutical companies and doctors should receive the thankful from the patients instead of their money.

             The author in this article states "lithium hasn’t been extensively tested as a treatment for other conditions in part because it’s a natural substance: Elements on the periodic table can’t be patented. Pharmaceutical companies therefore have little incentive to promote lithium or develop other uses for it, despite its potential. lithium can be supposed to help the patients to deal with their disease or disorders. However, due to low profitable of this medicine, the pharmaceutical companies reluctant to promote or develop the use of Lithium which cause the patients can not accept the best therapy and drugs. The ways that the Pharmaceutical companies behaved actually violated the ethics. Pharmaceutical companies should not based on the range of profit as the factors to decide whether to develop and promote the uses of lithium or not. They should consider the effectiveness of the lithium as the factors instead. Sacrificing the human right in order to exchange the maximum profit is not a ethics ways for Pharmaceutical companies and even the doctors. Their priority should place the patient’s health and figures the best plan to cure their illness. Therefore, these companies should put aside the profit factors in order to not violate the ethics as their main objective is providing the best therapy and medicine for the patients.
