- If either of the persons were to be treated for a disorder, what are some of the treatment strategy risks or consequences?
- Does the given life stage (childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age) of the person impact your understanding of the causal factors or treatment strategy?
- odule 3 focuses on mood disorders and suicide. This overview will set the stage for you to read about the details of the specific disorders in your assigned module readings.
The most common mood disorder is unipolar depression. The term unipolar differentiates disorders that involve only depression from those that involve both depression and manic episodes (bipolar disorders). Unipolar depression is similar to the normal "blues" but is much more severe in nature and magnitude of symptoms. Dysthymia is a chronic, long-lasting form of mild or moderate depression.
Please keep in mind that some "moods" may indeed be a developmentally appropriate tendency during certain life stages. The following link may also provide some insight on the topic:
