Application of knowledge is the ultimate goal of instruction. It is important that theory learned is actually applied to real-life situations, and not just remain in the classroom. An Application Log exercise will enable you to convert theory into practice and think strategically.

1. Pick a topic of interest from the list below.

2. Think of a real-life situation that your topic can be applied to, and develop a 1-page scenario. Use real corporations/scenarios for your work. Be as detailed in your analysis as possible. Provide your own solutions/thoughts as appropriate.

Examples:

 Create a mission statement (your own!) for an existing company.

 Use the SWOT analysis on an existing company.

 Use Porter’s Five Forces model to analyze an existing company.

     Create a value chain analysis for a company.

     Analyze how a particular company attracts, develops, and retains human capital (employees).
