Cultural Analysis Paper (Critical Thinking and Information Literacy): Around 700 words
You will write a cultural analysis paper to address the following points:
Critical Thinking Requirements (50 pts):
· Based on our class readings, please identify and define a native cultural concept that is unique to the East Asian cultures, e.g. mianzi, guanxi, collectivism, ingroups and outgroups, power distance, facework, high context and low context, business etiquette, masculinity, family relationships, status of women, education, etc.
If you wish, you can also explore and examine a particular aspect of the culture, that you find interesting, e.g. dance, martial arts, education, language, differences in food etiquette and preparation, business styles, music, etc.
· Based on our class readings AND your own research, please explain and illustrate how this native cultural concept is reflected in the behaviors and represents the values in that culture.
· Please discuss similarities and/or differences between this native cultural concept and values and behaviors of your own culture. Use examples in your personal experience and/or research to illustrate and support your points.
· Without counting cover page and references, please indicate the word count on the upper right corner of your cover page. Failure to include word count will result in a deduction of five points.
· The cover page should include the following information: your name, class number and title, section number, date of submission, and word count. The next page should have an abstract – which is a brief summary of what you will be discussing in the paper. You do not need subheadings on the other pages. The last page will have the References listed.
Information Literacy Requirements (50 pts):
· Reference books and book chapters used in this class, scholarly journal articles and non-scholarly materials posted on Blackboard, and materials used by the instructor in class. Refer to the information and sources provided by the librarian when he visited our class.
· Find and cite at least three outside scholarly sources to illustrate and develop your ideas. Among the outside sources, at least one has to be a scholarly journal article. The quality of the sources you cite should be evaluated based on their accuracy, authority, currency, objectivity, and reliability.
· Provide proper in-text citations according to the APA (6th Ed.) citation style.
· Provide a reference list, including all the sources you cite in your paper, according to the APA (6th Ed.) citation style.
