Week 7 Hamlet part 2 (Discussion)
Hello everyone--we are almost done with the semester!
This week we are going to concentrate on discussing Hamlet in some more depth. Part of the discussion this week asks you to answer questions from the posted Hamlet lecture from Professor Smith at Oxford University. Please listen to it below, or find it on iTunes. (iTunes link, see #39 (Links to an external site.)).
Here is the MP3 File
**************This part is for the journal instructions******read below
This Week's Journal Format: 10 on 1
10 on 1
Please show me all relevant work for each step. Word count starts with step six.
STEP 1: Find a well-developed paragraph that is difficult or complex.
STEP 2: Carefully read and take notes/mark-up the selection.
STEP 3: Draw out a range of ten possible meanings for the paragraph working closely with the exact language of the passage. (You could also ask students to list ten prominent things they notice about the passage for a slightly different exercise, and you can ask for any number of meanings, likely at least three, depending on the length of the passage and the amount of class time).
STEP 4: Rank top ideas
STEP 6: Use your best ranked idea as the starting point for your journal. In the copy you turn in, include all ten ideas with rankings. If you happen to run out of ideas on your top-ranked idea, move to your next idea.
