Through the TRILL protocol, switches are used to ensure that there is Local Area Network (LAN) for use by customers. What is referred to as a TRILL campus is a region where there are interconnections and the interconnections are facilitated through switching on the control switches. When these switches serve the purpose of interconnecting several regions in a TRILL, then it is commonly known as a cut set and usually. The removal of the cut set would mean or translate to immediate disconnection of the TRILL campus (Perlman, 2011).

Through configuration, the cut set switches play the role of translating data labels that are similar though in one region. When the same data is to be transferred to a different region within the TRILL campus, then the configuration facilitates the translation of the same data to a different region (Perlman, 2011). The transfer of the data labels follows a given and well stated path known as RBrigdes and the TRILL switches must not necessarily be aware of the configuration that facilitates the transfer of data labels between the switches.

By assuming that there are two regions in the TRILL campus with the regions are interconnected with each other through Rbridge1, RBridge2 and Bridge 3, they make up what was defined earlier as a cut set. Through configuration, Data label from the first region and after being received by RRBridge1, in one of the regions can be transferred to the other region and through configuration, the transfer is done and the Data label in the first region received as it is to a port in the second region. This can happen in more than just two regions provided that there are ports in all the regions and the ports be configured. Security in a TRILL campus may be compromised if there is occurrences of mis-configuration of the mappings of the Data Label hence delivery be done to the label that wasn’t targeted (Perlman, 2011).
