Module 1:  Introduction to Technical Writing

Overview

As a reminder, this module introduced good technical writing characteristics: Purpose, Knowledge of the topic, Audience, Criteria for evaluation, Statistical and graphic support, and Ethical. It also guided the following: Denotative (explicit) language, Prevalence serving as a respectful function, based on concrete data, Objectivity, Discourse purpose aims to inform and clarify, Fairness and accuracy, and Precise vocabulary.

Submission Instructions

· Locate an instruction manual for a product you may own. Analyze it against the standards listed in the chapter for good technical writing. Some possible questions you can reply to in your Memo are:

· Does it meet all the characteristics?

· Is the tone knowledgeable?

· Is it accessible to different audiences?

· Is it clear, well organized, and easy to read?

· Does it use graphics or illustrations that assist you in understanding the processes or procedures?

· What would you have done differently?

· Submit your analysis in a memo to your instructor. To write the Memo,  use the template that is included here  Download use the template that is included here .

· Submit your assignment by 11:59 pm ET on Sunday.

· Review the rubric to determine how your assignment will be graded.

· Your assignment will be run through Turnitin to check for plagiarism. Please check your results, make any necessary corrections, and resubmit a revised copy if the system identifies issues. If you are new to Turnitin,  review the information  in the Student Resource Center about it.
