1. Discuss the ways in which Aristotle's features of persuasive rhetoric (ethos, logos, and pathos) were exemplified in the Obama speech. In your discussion, be sure to explain Aristotle's features and to give specific examples of each from the speech.

2. Define the technique of "both sides." How did Obama employ the "both sides" technique in his speech? Be specific and give illustrations.

3. Share your general reactions to the speech. What do you think about what Obama said? What are Obama's proposed solutions to the issue? How effective have they been (considering this address was given in 2009)? Explain.
