WK 1 DB 2

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum,

· Review Chapter 2 from your textbook,  Applied Psychology in Talent Management.

· Review the article  How to Close the Gender GapLinks to an external site..

· Review the article  Discrimination in the Workplace: A Complete Overview and What to Do About ItLinks to an external site..

“Discrimination” is a word commonly used without a definite and universal meaning. Within the employment context, however, discrimination is defined as “giving one group an unfair advantage over other members of other groups” (Cascio & Aguinis, 2019, p.18).

Even though a job position may have more applicants than is needed for the job and implies exclusion, organizations must take care to know and avoid violating the federal and state employment laws. Now, imagine you are the HR director at ACME Financial Services. The CEO has advised you to only hire Asian males that appear to be between 35 and 50 years of age since many of ACME’s clientele seem to believe this population has great insight into financial matters. As the HR director, you know federal and state laws prohibit such practice.

Based on your understanding of the scenario,

· Identify a specific section in Chapter 2 of  Applied Psychology In Talent Management that assures everyone equal opportunity.

· Explain how you would respond to the CEO using this section.

· Give an example when exclusion in fair employment practice does not violate federal and state fair employment laws.

Guided Response: Your initial response should be a minimum of 200 words. Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ or instructor posts in a substantive manner and provide information or concepts they may not have considered. Each response should have a minimum of 100 words. Support your position by using information from the week’s resources. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful and interactive discourse in this discussion forum.
