Visual Analysis Essay

Horaceyim

A typed 2 - 3 pp. essay (approx. 400 - 500 words) discussing the work you have done up till now in this class, and how it reflects your learning, your vision and creative process, and the cultural and historical context in which you have been learning to create drawings.

Objectives:

Skills:

  • Students will practice analyzing artwork using evidence from the vocabulary of form and concept;
  • Students will practice the basic art skill of learning how to change and strengthen a work of art by critiquing it;
  • Students will practice writing skills (organization, clarity of expression, use of technical vocabulary, etc.).

Knowledge:

  • Students will deepen understanding of art and design terminology and how to use it.

Instructions:

Please type a 400 - 500 word essay reflecting on your work this quarter, in particular addressing:

  • how your work has grown (both in skill and expression) through the learning and critique process;
  • where and how you believe your work can improve, to more fully express your own creative vision;
  • artwork and artists (seen in class lectures or elsewhere) that have inspired you, challenged you, or made you ask questions.

Suggestions/Considerations:

  • One great way to discuss your learning and growth is to write about any specific changes or improvements you've made to assigned drawings or sketchbook prompts in response to the critique process (either from class or instructor critique).
  • As you attempt to articulate your own artistic vision or discuss individual drawings, make sure to use the design vocabularyActions  we've been learning.
  • To refresh your memory about artists or artwork we've looked at in class, you can always start by reviewing the Class Lectures PowerPoints in previous Modules...you'll find the slides and artist's names there, and can do any further research you find interesting to help place your work in a global/historical context.

 make sure to use the design vocabularyActions  !!!. I will upload a pdf document. you can find some word on the pdf document.
