INTRODUCTION

Technology has changed every industry in which it has touched, and healthcare is no exception. With the expansion and growth of technology, healthcare and nursing practice has been transformed in a remarkedly short time, and there is no indication that the transformations will end.

In this module, you will explore the impact of these emerging technologies not only on nursing practice but also within nursing research. How has technology changed how healthcare providers interact with patients? How has technology changed how data is collected and analyzed? How has technology changed the scope of nursing practice and research? These questions will be explored as you progress through the module. 

WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS MODULE?

Module 2: Emerging Technology: Transforming Nursing and Clinical Practice is a 2-week module—Weeks 3 and 4 of the course—in which you will explore the impact of nursing informatics and technology on your practice. You will also explore how differing project management theories can impact implementation of nursing research. In this module, you will also continue working through your nursing informatics project.

TECHNOLOGY: TRANSFORMING NURSING AND CLINICAL PRACTICE

INTRODUCTION

Healthcare is no longer simply sitting in an office waiting to see a healthcare professional. Technology has transformed nursing practice beyond the brick-and-mortar walls of a healthcare facility. What role might nursing informatics play in assessing the impact of these changes? Why might an assessment of these changes be imperative to ensuring quality of patient care?

Whether a virtual visit, a wellness tracker, or a wearable health monitor, these technological advancements in healthcare are proving to be immediate, evident, and continuing in nursing practice. This week, you will explore the impact of these advancements.
