Recall the Week 2 Learning Activity where you categorized a series of statements as value, anecdote, or evidence statements. You can review the activity in this week’s Learning Resources if you wish. Recall that value and anecdote statements are based on personal beliefs, experiences, or observations and have no scientific credibility. Evidence statements do have scientific credibility because they are based on scientific research. When you are responding to Discussions or writing papers for Assignments, it is important to use evidence statements to support your ideas and arguments with credible scientific research. It also is important to know how to paraphrase the evidence statements and accurately cite and reference the original sources.

For this Assignment, you will build upon the skills you practiced in Weeks 2 and 3 by reading a journal article and then writing evidence statements to support value and anecdote statements. You will also practice paraphrasing, citing, and referencing your sources using APA style.

WEEKLY RESOURCES (https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/151568/modules/items/5984604)

Revisit the interactive media, “Using Critical Thinking Strategies to Identify Scientific Evidence and Cognitive Bias.” Review the definitions and examples of value, anecdote, and evidence statements. Reflect on what you learned in Week 3 about how to read journal articles and what you learned this week about how to effectively paraphrase sources. Review the article, “Paragraphs: Organization (MEAL Plan).” Consider how you could use the MEAL plan strategy to organize your writing. Review the Learning Resources on APA style. Pay particular attention to how to format citations and journal article references. Review the following article and the example of a completed assignment template to help you understand how to complete this week’s assignment. Pay particular attention to how the author of the example template wrote evidence statements to support the value and anecdote statements, wrote a summary of the article using the MEAL Plan strategy, and cited and referenced the article using APA style. You will use a different article and template to complete your Week 4 Assignment 2; these files are here for you to use only as guiding examples.

Go to the Announcements area of the classroom to find your assigned article and blank template for this Assignment. Read the assigned article and complete the Assignment using the specific instructions in the template. Remember to apply what you learned about effectively paraphrasing and citing and referencing sources using APA Style.
