Hello everyone,

According to Garrett & Hough (2018) language is a mechanism of the brain which comes from a common ancestor. Most of the research that has been performed on larger marine life and few primates such as chimps and bonobo. Chimpanzees lack the ability to talk; however, this species was able to learn sign language and the bonobo communicated through symbols on a board. Primates also interact with their mouths such as smiling and pursing their lips together. Birds have also developed a language similar to humans, and some can even mimic human word such as parrots.

I believe that animals are more intelligent than we make them out to be. Animals all communicate differently with each other. Dogs, for example, I believe use body language and the change the pitch in their bark to express their emotions. The average dog knows up to 165 words but whether they can understand is still being assessed (Hickman, 2011). I also believe that communicate with each other dogs and cat vocally. My dogs growl at one another regarding their treats, toys, or attention. I’m not a big fan of zoos; however, they also show language communication between elephants and humans or tigers and humans. I also believe language lies within the tone or dialects which is why it is hard to know if animals that respond to sound are responding to the tone of our voices.
