Understanding Conduct Disorder

Conduct disorder is a serious behavioral and emotional disorder that is often

characterized by persistent patterns of antisocial, aggressive, or defiant behavior. Children with

the disorder may violate the rights of others and societal norms, engaging in behaviors such as

aggression towards people and animals, property destruction, deceitfulness, and serious rule

violations (Frick & Kemp, 2021). The consequences of this disorder and the long-term impacts it

has on children are the reason why this topic is relevant to the course (Waldman et al., 2021).

Understanding this disease can aid bring better awareness of the illness and can a voice to those

living with the issue.

Understanding of this topic is very helpful for families. There is often the saying that

every family has its black sheep. This does not always have to be the case (Waldman et al.,

2021). With proper research and awareness, families can understand how this disorder can be

managed. Consistent discipline, clear boundaries, and positive reinforcement can help manage

symptoms. This happens in the family (Frick & Kemp, 2021). This topic is also applicable in

faith. A better understanding of this illness can lead to the creation of a faith-based treatment that

ensures a proper understanding of the issues while addressing them (Wu et al., 2022). Faith

communities may provide resources, support groups, and mentoring opportunities, which can

help children.
